What are the advantages of a credit union over a traditional bank?

Credit unions and banks offer many of the same financial products and services, but credit unions are structured differently. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, a credit union is owned by its members rather than shareholders.

Because credit unions focus on serving their members, they may offer benefits such as competitive loan rates, lower fees, higher dividend rates on deposit accounts, and a more personalized banking experience.

At SFCU, membership provides access to a variety of financial products and services, including checking accounts, savings accounts, loans, mortgages, online and mobile banking, and financial education resources. Members also have a voice in the credit union through the cooperative ownership structure.

While both banks and credit unions provide a safe place to save and manage money, many people choose a credit union for its member-focused approach, community involvement, and commitment to helping members achieve their financial goals.
