What is an escrow account for a mortgage?

A mortgage escrow account is used to collect funds as part of your monthly mortgage payment to cover certain property-related expenses. SFCU uses the funds in your escrow account to pay these bills on your behalf, including:

  • Property taxes
  • Homeowners insurance
  • Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI), if applicable
  • Flood insurance, if applicable
