Our Story

A group of Scintilla Magneto Corp. employees met in the union hall in Sidney, NY to discuss the possibility of forming a credit union. At that meeting, 15 employees paid $25 each to fund the application fee to secure a charter. On 1/26/49, charter #6011 was received from the Bureau of Credit Unions creating Sidney FCU.

Today we are 11 branches strong with a field of membership that includes parts of Broome, Oneida and Herkimer counties: as well as all of Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Cortland, Onondaga, Madison, Schoharie, Montgomery, Fulton, Hamilton and Essex counties.

Our Board of Directors

SFCU Board of Directors

The SFCU Board of Directors are individuals who live and work in the communities we serve. Our mission is to improve the financial well-being of our members by providing the products and services that exceed their expectations while making banking.easier.

Jim Reynolds

President/CEO

In today’s world it’s easy to feel disconnected and like just another account number. At SFCU we value each individual and prioritize the member experience. Member satisfaction is the focus of everything we do.

We also recognize the needs of our members are always evolving. At SFCU our goal is to provide both a balance of the self-service technology our members want, as well as a high touch consultative branch experience when they need it.

From deposit products, like our savings or checking accounts, loan products, business services, and financial education we provide tools to enhance the overall well-being of our members and the communities we serve.

Thanks to the guidance from our volunteer Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee and ALCO, their dedication and commitment to the credit union philosophy, our future is bright.

Thank you for choosing SFCU.

Strengthening Relationships & Supporting Our Communities

Branch Out Day

On a Tuesday afternoon during the Fall of 2023, SFCU closed its branches early to host the 'SFCU Branch Out' Event. This was time dedicated to furthering one of our primary goals, which is to make a positive impact and help build stronger communities. As a part of the event, SFCU staff members were assigned to teams and asked to show their support to one of four selected organizations. Each team was given a list of items needed and were asked to bring a contribution to the site where the entire SFCU team gathered. We are excited to report that SFCU really delivered and made a significant impact in our communities! Nearly a dozen SUVs were packed to the brim with items needed to help the selected organizations do the important work that they do. In addition, thousands of dollars were raised. We are so proud of what we achieved that afternoon! We encourage you to follow us on Facebook to learn more about events such as this and all things SFCU.

SFCU in the Community

The credit union difference is "people helping people", a responsibility we take very seriously. SFCU team members can be found volunteering in the community, making donations, and being of service to others.
